The Benefits of Home Air Purifiers

If you are one of the lucky few that live in a pristine household that manages to fend off germs, viruses, and dust, you probably don't need a home air purifier. But if your home's air ventilation system does not thoroughly trap and dispose of these contaminants, you may be interested in getting an air purifier for your home. Some folks don't worry about their clean air quality or even their health, for that matter. But if you want to enjoy your time spent at home, and if you want to do everything you can to live to a ripe old age, a home air purifier might be just what you're looking for.

While it can't work miracles, a home air purifier can make your life more comfortable and healthy. If one or more of the groups listed below are represented in your household, give some serious thought to purchasing a home air purifier to clean up your breathing space.

1. Smokers. Is there at least one smoker in your family or household? An air purifier can help to rid each room of second-hand smoke that has been shown to have adverse effects on family members' health. If your smoker agrees to light up in just one room in the house, then you may just need one air purifier. But if he or she smokes throughout the living area, you may want to consider getting several air purifiers to clear each floor of your home of this lethal toxin.

2. Asthmatics. If someone in your family has a serious Asthma condition, it is important to clear the air of perfumes, viruses, fungi, and other particles that can trigger an attack. Talk with the doctor about the most common allergens that aggravate many people's asthma conditions. Find out what an air purifier can do to help an asthmatic person experience fewer and less serious attacks.

3. Chronic ill persons. Does someone in your family suffer from a long-term condition like Fibromyalgia, Cancer, Heart Disease, or Cystic Fibrosis? Anyone with a chronic disease can benefit from breathing purified air. Those with disorders that impair the circulatory or respiratory systems especially need clean breathing air. An air purifier in that person's bedroom or primary living space, or several units throughout your home, can help to promote comfort.

4. Pet owners. Do you have two or more furry animals living in your home? Dogs, cats, hamsters, rabbits, and even feathery birds, if maintained in quantity, can pollute your indoor air quality, especially if the house is well insulated. Some people are allergic to animal dander or flea sprays, so it is important for them to have clean air access in order to avoid the onset of frequent allergy attacks. Dogs and cats, especially, may leave residual odors in the carpet or flooring that may not readily dissipate. An air purifier will help to eliminate these odors and keep your home smelling fresh.

An air purifier can make your home cleaner and fresher for all residents, so think about getting one to purify your home's indoor air.

What do these Purifiers do?

In the world that we live in today, it is hard to be confident that your family is enjoying the cleanest, healthiest and safest life that they can all of the time. If you are looking for something that can do to build your confidence in this area, then Sharper Image air purifiers are for you. The series of Sharper Image air purifiers can cleanse the air in your home while ridding your home of unpleasant odors, bacteria, and other potentially harmful particles in the air that could make you sick.

By a very easy process, Sharper Image air purifiers allow you to live your life in the home that you love, without having to deal with the things that you don't love, like smells and germs.

The reason that it is important to install Sharper Image air purifiers is not only to create a pleasant environment that is odor free. The Sharper Image air purifiers are going to enhance the cleanliness and the safety of the air that your family breathes every day. These units clean the air, which means that pet dander, dust, and bacteria, which would normally be floating about in the air, will be eliminated from the air in your home.

How do the Air Purifiers Work?

Sharper Image air purifiers work in a very easy way. They simply pull in the air from around the unit, where they will charge the particles in the air in such a way so that the harmful particles, like bacteria and pet dander, will stick to the filter. The air, which does not stick to the filter, simply travels through it, and comes out on the other side clean and fresh.

Most Sharper Image air purifiers also include a system for pushing the air out so that you not only get clean air, but you get air that is moving, which also helps to create a healthier environment in your home.

The best part about Sharper Image air purifiers is that you can find them very inexpensively. Even the more expensive models are a good value, because they will last for a long time. The filters of most of the models can either be taken out and cleaned, or replaced periodically. It is surely an investment that every family should be making, because the benefits of breathing clean air far outweigh the costs of these units.

Asthma and Air Purifiers

Asthma is a disease that consists of two main components. These components are constriction and inflammation, both of which occur in the lung passageways. Constriction is when the airways narrow because muscles tighten around them and inflammation is when the airways get irritated and start to swell. When both of these actions occur together, they cause the symptoms of asthma such as difficulty breathing and swelling of the lungs. A person experiencing an asthmatic attack has difficulty catching his or her breath and is usually coughing or wheezing in order to try to breathe.

Asthmatic attacks can occur at any time. Some can be severe and some can simply seem like a shortness of breath. Due to this characteristic of the disease, some people are still unaware that they have asthma and need to treat it. If asthma goes untreated, a person may experience a decrease in lung function. The disease makes a person's lungs work harder and without help or treatment from an outside source, a person suffering from asthma will have weaker lungs. Air Purifiers can help.

There are many contaminants in the air that can be asthma triggers. Some of the contaminants include pet dander, allergens, pollen, dust or chemicals. When these substances are breathed in, asthmatics are sometimes affected and can experience difficulty breathing. An asthmatic affected by seasonal allergies may also find that response to the allergies can lead to an asthmatic attack. The toxins found in indoor air can easily be filtered out of the air indoors with an air purifier.

There are simple things that can be done to prevent asthmatic attacks such as keeping pets outside, not smoking tobacco products in the home or dusting all furniture as much as possible. However, air purifiers are proven to be the most effective way to keep indoor air clean and safe. Most air purifiers are proven to remove 99.7% of all particles found in indoor air. Chemical fumes, tobacco smoke and dust can be absorbed into the filter of an air purifier. With these contaminants no longer present in the air, the probability of an asthma attack is very low for the sufferer.

The High Efficiency Particulate Air Filters, or HEPA filters, that are used in air purifiers are effective in absorbing most toxins in indoor air that can be related to asthma attacks. They are able to remove 99.7% of all particles that are 0.03 microns and larger. These particles can include pollen and dust particles, which are the main cause of asthma attacks among sufferers. If indoor air pollutants are not removed from the air, they can circulate an indoor room with no escape. The pollutants are then breathed in and can cause a severe or minor asthmatic attack. With an air purifier, these particles and pollutants are absorbed and cannot be circulated throughout the air.

What is a 'HEPA' filter?

A 'HEPA' filter is a kind of mechanical filter that means it's a " high-efficiency particulate air" filter. HEPA was invented during World War II to prevent the escape of radioactive particles from laboratories. To qualify as a true HEPA filter, it must be able to capture at least 99.97% percent of all particles 0.3 microns in diameter, or larger, that enter it.

In a 1990 review of indoor air pollutants, published by The American Thoracic Society, it was stated that air purifiers containing the HEPA filter are able to remove a significant amount of particles from indoor air, making the air cleaner and safer to breathe. Asthmatics who use an air purifier in their home are less likely to have an asthma attack since the pollutants that trigger the attacks are no longer present in the indoor air they are breathing.

There is no known cure for asthma and people diagnosed with the disease will have to deal with it for the rest of their lives. However, with the help of air purifiers, people are finding their asthma attacks are becoming a scarce occurrence instead of a daily struggle. By eliminating particles in the air that trigger attacks, air purifiers are helping people with asthma to cope with their daily lives. Asthma may be an uncomfortable disease but people are finding relief in the use of air purifiers.

Ozone generators [not recommended - these types of "filters" are not reliable since their ozone levels usually exceed acceptable levels]. Although ozone technically clears the air of some particles, most groups do not recommend these. (Note: these are not ion-type filters; see "Electronic Filters" above.) These devices all exceed the acceptable level for ozone.

If you have concerns about any air filter you own or are planning to buy, remember to talk to your doctor first, to find out if air filtration -- and what type -- is best for you.

Air Purifiers Demystified

1. What are the main benefits that come with an air purifier?

Air purifiers benefit your health by removing or reducing the occurrence of harmful particles in the air. There are a variety of air purification technologies available at Air & Water to reduce odors, reduce particulates in the air, and to destroy living micro-organisms that float through the air you breathe.

2. What can an ionic purifier do for me?

Ionic purifiers contain a device that "ionizes" the air passing through it, causing the particles contained to gain a charge (either positive or negative, depending on the machine). After the air has been charged, one of two things can happen: the particles in the air can be attracted to an oppositely charged plate in the purification process or the particles can be attracted to other particles that have received an opposing charge resulting in the two particles sticking together and falling out of the air. Purifiers that release ions into the air have a much larger effectual range than those that do not because the air does not need to pass through the machine to start the purifying; air only needs to come into contact with the charged ions that are released. Capture-type ionic purifiers only need to be cleaned by wiping the dirt from the plates while ion-releasing purifiers require minimum maintenance. The particles are removed when you vacuum. Also, most ionizers are extremely quiet.

3. What does a HEPA filter offer?

HEPA filters use a cloth-like filter that is specifically engineered to trap at least 99.9% of particles, 0.3 microns or larger in size. In comparison, a smoke particle is 0.5 microns in size, nearly twice as large as the particles that HEPA purifiers are designed to catch. Because of this technique, HEPA filters can be extremely effective in clearing out almost anything from the air in a room--just shut the door and let it run. All filtration systems of this type have a replaceable filter that can last up to five years, depending on the environment being filtered. Although the noise level of a HEPA is greater than that of an ionic purifier, it can usually handle a wider variety of pollutants in the air.

4. Is there an advantage in purchasing an active carbon purifier?

Active carbon purifiers and filters use highly reactive carbon to chemically react to materials as they pass through the purifier. By pushing the air through the carbon, particulates are trapped and odors are bonded with the carbon to hold them within the filter making for a very effective process. Most activated carbon appliances use a HEPA filter as well to provide the top quality, clean air output.

IQ Air Purifiers: Say Goodbye to Allergies

The world is ever evolving and so is the human race. We seem to be running in a race in which our most fearsome opponents are ourselves. Mother Nature seems to be running as fast as she can, trying to cope up with the new discoveries, new technologies, and the new trends that seem to be popping up from everywhere. We engage in so many activities that slowly endanger our environment and, in the long run, us. We have become so used to all the smoke, dust, smog, and other types of air pollution that we hardly notice that there is something wrong with the air that we're breathing. Not unless we go to the country or some rural area where nature is in abundance and the air is clear and free from the pollutants ever present in cities.

But for majority of the people who live in cities, it is ordinary and quite normal to fill their lungs with dirty and polluted air. Little do we know that we are causing such detriment to our bodies. Some common reactions that we get are allergies and breathing-related problems. That is the reason why IQ Air created some of the best air purifiers in the world. IQ Air Purifiers come in different designs and sizes to cater to each specific need.

Some of the main features of these air purifiers are:

- Hyper HEPA Filtration System. This type of filter removes the minutest particles, including microorganisms like bacteria, viruses, allergens, and dust and other particles that are literally microscopic in size. The great thing about this hyper HEPA system is that it can filter particles even smaller than 0.3 microns. This air purifier filter system is patented by IQ Air and is the first filter tested and certified with the ability to filter up to 0.003 microns. This guarantees a minimum efficiency of 99.5 percent. Other purifiers only capture up to 0.3 micron particles and allow the rest to permeate.

- Sealed Structure. The body of IQ Air Purifiers is housed in such a way that there will be no need for additional sealants to trap the micro-particles in. This gives the assurance that all the air that goes into the air purifier passes through the hyper HEPA structure.

- V5 Cell Gas and Odor Filter. Some models of IQ Air Purifier contain activated carbon and activated aluminum that filter the particles that escape the initial filtration system. The activated carbon works by adsorption. That means the smaller particles stick to the compound. The activated aluminum reacts with the remaining particles by oxidation process.

The top-of-the-line models of IQ Air Purifiers are so efficient that they are used in rooms that hold sensitive U.S. military equipment. The same air purifier is also used in hospital rooms especially in cases wherein patients need reverse isolation or are hypersensitive to allergens. Pharmaceuticals and microchip manufacturers also use IQ Air Purifiers to keep their production rooms sterile. Plus, the IQ Air HealthPro air purifier model is so efficient that it was the first of its kind to obtain an EN 1822 Certification. This is one of the most stringent clean air certification processes. In fact, IQ Air Purifiers can assure you of a 99.5 percent overall efficiency and you can say goodbye to allergies.

A Look at Some of the Benefits of Using Air Purifiers

Some time back when there were no agents to clean the air, people who suffered from allergies continued to suffer until the introduction of air purifiers. Air purifiers are devices that reduce impurities or contaminants in order to leave a more conducive environment for people and other organisms to live in. People who suffer from asthma are especially thankful to the scientists who invented air purifiers. It is not only people who suffer from such ailments that are at risk, but everyone who does not appreciate rude second-hand smoke that is emitted by smokers who do not take necessary precautions to protect the people around them. The air purifiers function in many different forms, but basically they work by filtering the air and releasing the clean particles to the atmosphere.

Air purifiers are used not only to remove smoke from the air, but also very many other impurities. They include pollen which comes from plants. As you may well know pollen is a very big factor when allergies are concerned. Other impurities include dust, pet dander and mite waste. Traditionally, people poured water to dusty spaces to reduce the amount of dust that would be transfered to the atmosphere but, today there are more modern ways to cub the problem. Usually most impurities are microscopic and need air purifiers to totally rid them from the air.

Air purifiers need some amount of electrical energy to function with efficiency. This can translate in more expense but a lot of positive effect to the environment. One of the most common ways to clean the air is using filters. Air is literally filtered by various methods and purified. This method is not very suitable for very large environments and may be uneconomical. Activated carbon is a highly porous material that can absorb impurities from the air and is usually used alongside filters. It cannot be used to absorb very huge particles and therefore limited in its function. To effectively get rid of mold, bacteria, or viruses a method that uses short wave ultra violet rays, has been proven to be very effective in its function. This method is called photo catalytic oxidation. Ionizer purifiers or needles that are used to produce electrically charged surfaces.

Another air purifier is the ozone generator. It produces ozone which is a strong oxidant. Ozone oxidizes most chemicals and therefore very effective in its function. Ozone gas is very dangerous and anyone thinking of getting this air purifier should take extreme caution and follow every safety procedure that is directed by the manufacturers.

One of the major factors that you should consider when choosing an air purifier is the kind of allergens you want to get rid of. Your purifier must be effective to the kind of problems that you have. It is wise to consider the safety indications of your method and there can be no compromise with that. You should consider the amount of space available to install your purifier. They come in all shapes and sizes.

Air purifiers play a major role in ensuring that life is enhanced and sustained. One can get small household purifiers in form of sprays which are widely available in the market or you can go for the advanced versions. It is vital to remember that people with no allergies can be affected by certain chemicals and it is therefore prudent to take some consideration in their favor.
